How CODbattles works

CODbattles is the free platform where Call of Duty clans compete on national ladders. Here's everything that happens, from creating your clan to the end-of-season trophies.

National ladders

Each ladder is a ranking of clans from the same country, for one mode and format. At launch there are two Italian ladders for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Search & Destroy 5v5 and 2v2, best of three maps. They're crossplay: PlayStation, Xbox and PC together.

Clans and rosters

Create your clan with a name, tag and logo, or join one with an invite link. The leader and officers manage the roster and sign the clan up for ladders. To play, every player sets their Activision ID, which is public on their profile.

Challenge board

The leader or an officer posts a challenge with up to three time slots and their map pick. Another clan accepts it by choosing a slot and a map, and the match is set. With “Play now” the match starts 15 minutes after someone accepts.

Map picks

Best of three: the clan that posted the challenge picks map 1, the clan that accepted picks map 2, and map 3 is random. Any pick can be “random” and no map repeats within a match.

Check-in

Check-in opens 15 minutes before the start and closes 15 minutes after. If only one clan shows up, it can claim a forfeit win; if neither does, the match is cancelled.

Results and disputes

Both clans enter the score of every map: if they match, the result is confirmed right away. The strongest evidence is a live photo of the end-of-match scoreboard, taken with CODbattles' own camera. If only one clan reports, the result is confirmed after 2 hours and the other clan can dispute it for 24 hours. Conflicting results are decided by moderators.

ELO ratings and standings

Every clan starts each season at 1000 points, and beating a stronger clan earns more. To stop farming, at most 5 matches every 7 days count against the same clan. Standings update live.

Seasons and trophies

Each ladder has its own seasons with start and end dates. When a season ends, the standings are frozen, the top three clans get gold, silver and bronze trophies, and ratings reset to 1000.

Fair Play

After every match, each clan rates the opponent's sportsmanship and punctuality from 1 to 5 stars. The Fair Play score shows on clan pages, the board and the standings.

Moderation and public bans

Community moderators resolve disputes and review cheat reports, which always need evidence. Penalties follow a clear strike system; cheaters are banned permanently and their matches of the season are overturned. Bans are public.

Badges and seasonal challenges

Players and clans unlock badges by playing, winning and climbing, and every season brings new challenges to complete. The best badges go in the showcase on the profile.

Notifications and Discord

In-app notifications, email and push notifications for accepted challenges, check-in and results. A clan can connect a Discord channel that receives scheduled matches, results and rank changes.

Free and community-made

CODbattles is free, with no ads and no subscriptions. It's an independent community project, not affiliated with Activision.
